Broken Leg!

About two weeks ago, Brooks decided to climb onto a play horse upstairs in order to reach the pinball machine (something he does all the time). Unfortunately, this time he fell and hurt his leg. We took him to the ER that night but the x-ray didn't show anything. They put him in a splint and told us to go see an orthopedic.

Well, of course he started walking on it, limping pretty badly really, a couple of days later so I just assumed it was a twisted ankle. After I spoke to my pediatrician about it, he really felt like we needed to go see an orthopedic so I caved and took him in. Good thing I did because the new x-ray showed a fracture across the front and side part of his leg / shin! How bad did I feel then?!?

Brooks was great at the doctor's office. He watched intently while they put his blue cast on. The cast extends from his groin to the end of his toes. He has to wear it for 4 weeks before we go back in for a follow up.

It is no surprise that he is moving around like a champ, still stacking toys and climbing onto them! I guess we haven't learned our lesson yet :-) I still can't believe it took 19 months to get to the ER and to have his first cast. Hopefully this will be his last but something tells me that it won't be!!!

Holding Baby

Brooks is really into holding Colt right now. He sits on the couch, puts both arms out, pulls his fingers into the palm of his hands while saying, "baby." He is actually pretty good at holding him. He touches his nose and we play the parts of the face game. It is really sweet. Today while we were up in Brooks' room, he sat on his bean bag and asked if he could hold Colt. I sat Colt on his lap and we read books for about 20 minutes. Brooks' pointed out all the animals for Colt and told him what all the animals say. His eyes light up every time he sees Colt and he constantly wants to be next to him. He is such a good big brother!

What A Happy Baby!

Colt is such a happy baby! I just love that he wakes up in the morning (even at his 4AM feeding) talking and smiling. He loves to be held and he can't seem to get enough attention. He has the sweetest disposition and his smile is contagious.

3 Months Already!

We can't believe Colt is already 3 1/2 months! Time sure flies these days and it is hard to capture as much with the second one as we did with the first kid. So, we decided to go ahead and do professional pictures of Colt just as we did with Brooks. We used the same photographer that did my maternity photos and all of Brooks' photos for Colt's 3-month pictures. We tried to get some of the boys together but Brooks wouldn't sit still long enough (what a surprise!) so we got some really adorable photos of them individually and with mom and dad.

I'm talking!

Colt is babbling up a storm! He smiles all the time, giggles and talks a lot. He has this high-pitched scream that can break glass. He is also starting to bat at his toys on his play mat. What a big boy!

First Visit to the ER

I can't believe it took 19 months for Brooks to visit the ER. I just figured it would come a lot sooner!

Last Friday night Alex and I took a trip to the store and nana stayed home to watch Brooks. Brooks decided to climb and stand on his horse toy in order to reach the pinball machine - down he fell. My mom called to let me know he had fallen and was crying and complaining that his foot / knee hurt. We got home and his foot was swollen and he was crying so we decided to take him to the ER. After x-rays (and a sugar-free popsicle to make the hurt go away) the doctor didn't see any broken bones; however, he put Brooks in a splint and referred him to an orthopedic doctor. He looked so darn cute in that splint that he hated so much!

He would not walk on it and he took up crawling again. He is slowly standing up and putting pressure on his foot again. He took his first steps today and you can tell it still hurts. He looks like he did when he first learned to walk. I am looking forward to him being 100% again b/c it is really hard carrying around a 3 1/2 month old AND a 19 month old. My arms should be ripped by now!

Pumping

So Brooks is always finding weird things to play with. First it was my pregnancy tests which he used as swords and now it is my breast pump! He wraps the tubes around neck and turns the pump on and off. He also likes to help turn it on and off while I am pumping which makes for a very long pumping session! It is always something new with him and he always has the ability to make Alex and me laugh :-)

Back to Swimming

We have Brooks back in his survival swim class for his second round of lessons. This 6 weeks he is learning how to roll from his back float (which he learned last summer) to his stomach and swim to the side. He has been in for two weeks and is doing great! Only four weeks left and he should be swimming this summer. Colt will start his lessons in August when he turns 8 months old.

I can roll over!

My baby boy can roll over! He actually rolled over for the first time (twice actually) when he was 6 weeks old; however, we hadn't seen him do it again until a couple of weeks ago at 3 months old. He can now roll from his belly to his back AND his back to his belly (sometimes). They just grow up way too quickly...
