Colt at 6 Months

We had our family / Colt at 6 months pictures done a few weeks ago, and as usual, the process was fun! Our photographer always does such a great job at getting the kids to show off their personalities. Colt was his smiley and happy little self while Brooks was his regular crazy self. Brooks enjoys running around all over Hal's studio like a crazy person and Hal does a wonderful job of catching him in action. Pictures of the two boys and family pictures were a little tough since Brooks won't sit still for more than a millisecond. A couple of them turned out pretty good but it is only going to get worse once Colt starts running around (sigh).

Swimming Like a Fish

As everyone knows, Brooks completed his ISR (Infant Swim Resource - Survival Swim) classes at the beginning of the summer and is now a little fish. We swim at my parents house every weekend and he cannot get enough of the pool. He loves to jump or belly flop off the side of the pool and swim to one of us but today he decided to swim the entire length of the pool all by himself. This was a huge accomplishment for him and he was so proud of himself. We also practiced his float today, flipping from a swim position to a float and back to a swim, so he decided to do it on his own a few times. My mom and I were so excited so we praised him a whole bunch and he kept doing it about 3-4 times. I guess his lessons really paid off! It is so great to know that my son, at 22 months, can swim by himself and save himself if God forbid he were to fall into the water.

Colt is 6 1/2 months and started lessons this past week. He doesn't like it yet but by the end of this summer he will float and next summer he will swim - YAHOO!

Lovin' to Read

Brooks really enjoys reading. We read before every nap, before bedtime and anytime throughout the day when he feels like sitting still. Books are actually the only thing he will sit still for which is great. I just thought this was a sweet picture of the boys at Nana and Poppy's house reading books.

Boys Will Be Boys

Boys will be boys - enough said...

Always Smiling

Colt is the happiest baby in the world! The kid is always smiling, cooing and making funny faces. Now that he knows how to stand up and get around, he has lots more to smile about. We thought he was going to be our calmer and more cuddly child but I think we were wrong! He is busier at this age than Brooks was and that is pretty darn busy - YIKES!

I'm Standing!

Colt is 6 1/2 months and growing so fast! He started crawling right at 6 months, and when I got back from my trip to NYC last week, he was pulling up on everything and standing!!! Life has changed as I know it. My once immobile child is now a crazy crawler and pulling himself up everywhere. He does lots of falling too but that's how they learn! He absolutely loves standing and gets so excited every time he pulls himself up. He is trying to cruise a bit but he doesn't get too far before he either sits or falls down.

New Ball Pit

We got Brooks a small ball pit for his first birthday which he LOVED and it eventually became his favorite toy (mostly to dump all the balls out all over the playroom!). It finally popped a couple of months ago so we decided to surprise him with a very large bounce toy that we filled with balls from his old pit. He woke up in the morning, saw it in the playroom and jumped in it immediately. He likes to hook his tunnel up to the opening so he can crawl through into the pit. LOTS of trucks and other toys find their way into the pit as well - even little Colt likes to play in the pit!

Big Helper

Brooks has become such a big helper these days. He is very independent and likes to do almost everything on his own. I love it really but it can definitely be trying for both of us at times :-) He enjoys helping Nana and Poppy in their garden, he helps Poppy clean the pool, and most recently, he brings his step stool over to the counter to help mommy make baby food!

Growing Boys

We had Colt's 6 month check up yesterday. He is such a big boy and the kid is getting busier and busier by the day. We thought he was going to be our calm and cuddly one but I think we were very wrong. He is all over the place now and a little squirmy worm when you try to hold him.

Brooks:

Weight - 23 lbs (5% -10%)
Height - 34 in (75% - 90%)

Colt:

Weight - 17 lbs (50%)
Height - 28 in (90% - 95%)

I guess my boys got their height from the Kaiser side because it definitely isn't from my side of the family! Thank goodness for that :-)

YUMMY Peas!

We finally got to start Colt on some real food once we returned from Florida. He has been ready to eat food other than oatmeal for a while now and I think he actually liked it (or sort of liked it). He definitely didn't make a gagging face like Brooks the first time we fed him peas! Now he eats peas and green beans. What a good eater!!!
