First Trip to the Zoo

Alex and I took Brooks to the zoo last Wednesday for the first time. The Dallas Zoo has a wonderful separate children's zoo where he got to pet guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens. He crawled through a tunnel with daddy to look at meerkats in their habitat. And of course he played on the little playground - can't miss a chance to slide down a slide.

We only got through half of the zoo because Brooks was exhausted by noon. We did end up seeing the elephants, giraffes, monkeys (Brooks' favorite), rhinos, kangaroos, HUGE snakes and some other fun animals. He absolutely LOVED the monkeys because they were really funny and playing right in front of his face. He also enjoyed a fun ride on the merry-go-round.

Since we didn't get all the way through the first day, we decided to take both the boys back to the zoo for another family outing. This time, Colt came along and he actually enjoyed the animals as well. Brooks is so into trains right now and has been begging us to go on a train ride for weeks. So we took the monorail through AFRICA and saw lots of cool animals. The boys were screeching and pointing and got excited at every little thing we saw. After the train ride, we took a walk through the gorilla habitat, which was Brooks' and Colt's favorite exhibit (they would have stayed all day), we saw the alligators and the chimps. After our stroll, we had a little lunch outside at the picnic tables and finished our day with the elephants, giraffes, tigers and monkeys.

The boys were so worn out that they fell asleep 5 minutes into our ride home and slept for 2 1/2 hours! What a fun family day!
