This year was wonderful with Brooks somewhat understanding the holidays and with this being Colt's first Hanukkah and Christmas - LOTS of excitement here!
We spent the first night of Hanukkah at my parents which is what we have done the past 5 or so years. My parents cook a great dinner and then we light candles, say prayers and complete the night with presents. It is so much more fun now that we have kids! Brooks actually LOVES to say the prayer while lighting the candle each night (he even knows the first part by heart) and then he just rips into the presents. I think Colt enjoyed eating the ribbon and paper more than opening the presents. My parents and Aunt Heather got them some really fun and unique gifts that they play with over and over at the house. The boys spent the night at my parents that night so Alex and I could have the night off! THANKS NANA, POPPY and AUNTIE HEATHER!
We opened a gift a night at our own home. Brooks looked forward to after dinner time so he could once again light the candle on the menorah and open his gift. My favorite would be the double-sided superhero capes ~ Batman/Superman & Spiderman/Incredibles...love it!
We got a lovely surprise on Christmas Eve day when it snowed! Brooks hadn't seen snow since he was little bitty and this was Colt's first time. Our awesome neighbor, Dee, came over and we went outside for a little bit to enjoy the snowfall until the boys hands froze and the adults were ready to come in.
On Christmas morning, the roads were really bad with ice so we stayed in until the boys woke up from their afternoon naps. We opened a couple of presents that morning, had breakfast upstairs and watched movies in our pajamas. After naps, we headed over to Grandma & Grandpa Kaiser's new house in Flower Mound for our family Christmas celebration. We spent the afternoon with the Kaisers, Alex's Aunt Wilma & Uncle Van and of course Uncle Bret and Cousin Madison. The boys opened more presents and spent the rest of the day playing outside in the snow and inside running around and jumping on furniture (oy vey!).
The Kaisers just moved into their new home over the holiday so Alex helped them hang some fans and Brooks thought he would help too! What a big boy helper he is!
Our holidays were filled with time together with wonderful family! We feel so blessed to have all our family live so close by. The boys are lucky to grow up with such loving people in their lives.
