Today was Brooks' first birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY little man! It started with a birthday song when he woke up in the morning. Alex and I went into his room and sang happy birthday to our baby boy as he sat staring at us like, 'what the heck is going on!' I took a video; however, it somehow got erased from the camera - so sad!!!
We took Brooks to the Coppell Farmer's Market in the morning to have a little fun at their Fall Festival. We walked around the vendor booths, he rode a VERY large blow up slide with daddy and we bought lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, breads and some jam. The weather was amazing and we all had a really nice time.
Saturday afternoon, our entire family came over to celebrate Brooks' birthday - even Alex's aunt and uncle were in town for the festivities. It was very laid back - cake, presents, music in his new playroom for dancing and lots of play time. It was a gorgeous day for a birthday. He got lots of great toys including an outdoor slide, a percussion set, a ball pit, legos, a hand-painted step stool, a dump truck, stand up musical toy, alphabet floor mat and more! He was lovin' every minute of it!
After opening presents, we took Brooks to his high chair to try some cake. I put his little hat on his head and he DID NOT like it at all! He does not like to wear hats so he was fussing up a storm until he saw a cake with a candle lit in it.
That caught his attention and he forgot about the hat from there on out. We all sang Happy Birthday as he sat there with a look of confusion on his face. His cousin Madison helped him blow out his candle and it was off to the races.
The cake eating was quite humorous to say the least. As most know, I am not a sweets eater, so I am a big advocate for NO SUGAR or treats for my little one (except fruit). So, giving Brooks cake (one that isn't sugar free) was a big step for mom. I was hoping he wouldn't like it, of course, but he seemed to thoroughly enjoy tasting it and spreading it everywhere! He was cautious at first, just touching his finger to the icing, but once I gave him a little bite, he was all over it. He tried to cut it with the pie serving piece and then we gave him a spoon and he went to town. It was everywhere!!! He really didn't eat a whole lot but it was demolished by the time he was done. He had lots of blue icing on his face, hands and throughout his hair. It was so much fun watching him!
I can't believe my baby boy is one year old. Next thing I know he'll be moving out and getting married...YIKES! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKSIE! Mommy and daddy love you!
